In February 2008 it reached a pinnacle of success when it toured India. The three-venue tour began in Mumbai before moving on to the Taj Mahal when the orchestra performed at the Taj Mohatsava Festival, the first western orchestra to do so. The third concert was performed in Delhi for the Prayas Children's Charity, which works to improve the lives of young children in the city. The tour concluded with a concert at the Residence of the British High Commissioner, Sir Richard Stagg.
Its Musicians are all members of the greater police family from the UK and include police officers, support staff and retired members, who come together in their own time and at their own expense each month for detailed rehearsals or expert sectional tuition. Their combined efforts over the last 10 years have raised in excess of £100,000 for charities all over the country.
The orchestra is well supported by all forces and a number of Chief Constables are Trustees and help administer the Trust Fund established in 1998, which now helps to support the Orchestra's activities. In this regard we also express our thanks to Reliance, which is the main concert sponsor.
The future is promising for this wonderful group of musicians who represent the British Police Service in communities at home and across the world. A group of people in whom the Service can be justly proud.
